Talladega County EMA uses Nixle, Facebook and Twitter to post up-to-date information on weather, emergency preparedness, events, disasters, and etc.  Below you will find information concerning the social media apps used by TCEMA.  

Social Media

Nixle - is a Community Information Service dedicated to helping you stay connected to  the information that matters most to you.  Information is immediately available over your cell phone by text message, by email, and over the web.  To sign up for Nixle is easy and free. You can text "35160" to 888777 to receive text alerts or click on the Nixle icon (left side of the table) to sign up via the website.

Facebook - is an online social networking service.   Talladega County EMA uses Facebook to connect and share information to the community. Like us on Facebook to get the latest information (https://www.facebook.com/readytalladega ).
    
Twitter - is an online social networking and microblogging service that enables users to send and read "tweets" which are text messages limited to 140 characters.  Registered users can read and post tweet but unregistered users can only read them.  Twitter can be access through the website interface, SMS, or mobile device app.  Twitter is a real-time information network that connects you to the latest stories, ideas, opinions and news about things of your interest.  Follow Talladega County EMA (https://twitter.com/readytalladega )

Outdoor Warning Siren System

Talladega County has 88 sirens located throughout the county for outdoor warning. 
Siren Test
Siren testing is part of normal maintenance.  Talladega County EMA  tests/activates all sirens in Talladega County at 4:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.   If there is prediction of inclement weather, the sirens will not be tested.  The make up day for siren test  will be the same week but on Thursday at 10:00 AM if weather permits.  Talladega County EMA sends alerts and notifications via Nixle , Facebook and Twitter to inform the community of the siren test.

For severe weather warnings, outdoor warning siren are activated for Tornado Warnings.

PLEASE NOTE
:  The sirens are an outdoor warning system only. They are not intended to be heard indoors.  The main purpose of the sirens is to warn individuals that are outdoors to seek immediate shelter. 

We encourage you to proactively seek out weather related information from official channels such as the National Weather Service (www.weather.gov) or your preferred local media source.  It is best practice to have a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio at your residence or place of business that broadcasts official Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts, and other hazard information 24/7.   You can find more information about NOAA weather radios at www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr.

Emergency Alert System (EAS)


The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a system that provides immediate communications and information to the general public at the national, state, or local level during periods of national emergency.  The EAS may be used by state and local governments to disseminate emergency information to the public in their area. 

The following are local EAS radio and TV stations that work closely with the Talladega County EMA to keep you informed in the event of an emergency. We suggest you keep a portable radio and batteries as part of your emergency supply kit.
