GENERAL INFORMATION

Alabama requires titles on the following:
  • 35 years or newer for motor vehicle
  • 35 years or newer for motorcycles
  • 35 years or newer for motor homes (RV's)
  • 20 years or newer for manufactured homes
  • 20 years or newer for folding and collapsible camping trailers
  • 20 years or newer for travel trailers, gooseneck trailer or semi trailer
The following do NOT require a title:
  • Boats
  • Boat trailers
  • Utility trailer(unless 5th wheel, goose neck or semi)

TRANSFERRING TITLES
The requirements below are general, and that other documentation maybe required in order to process a title and/or registration.  Every situation is different, and until all paperwork can be examined, there is no way to know whether or not any additional documentation is necessary.

NOTE:  When two people are listed as buyers, if "OR" is not listed between their name, both buyers must come in to sign the title application.   

If transferring an Alabama title, you will need to bring the following:
    1. Original Alabama Title (Properly Assigned to the Buyer)
    2. Bill of Sale
    3. Driver License
    4. Insurance (Policy Number & NAIC Number)
    5. Proof of Residency
If transferring a manufacturer’s statement of origin or an out-of-state title, you will need to bring the following:
    1. Original Title or Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin (Properly Assigned to the Buyer)
    2. Bill of Sale
    3. Driver License
    4. Insurance (Policy Number & NAIC Number)
    5. Proof of Residency
    6. Vehicle must be brought to the License Office for inspection
If the vehicle is leased (and does not contain a lienholder), you will need to bring the following:
    1. Original Title
    2. Power of Attorney
    3. Driver License
    4. Insurance (Policy Number & NAIC Number)
    5. Proof of Residency
    6. Vehicle must be brought to the License Office for inspection
If there is death, you will need to bring the following:
    1. Original Title
    2. If will was probated – Letter of Testamentary
    3. If will was not probated – Copy of Death Certificate and Original Next of Kin Affidavit*
    4. Insurance (Policy Number & NAIC Number)
    5. Proof of Residency
    6. Driver License (for the New Owner)

REPLACEMENT TITLE
There are two options to apply for a replacement title:
  1. In Person - visit one of our Talladega County Commission Revenue-License Division location.  An application for replacement title can be made by the registered owner of a vehicle for a fee of $18.00.
  2. Online -  Alabama Department of Revenue Public Title Portal offers member of the public access to secure website to complete certain applications for title online.  please click here to go the website.
